Dear Visitors,

As Rector of Obuda University, I extend a warm welcome to our prospective and current students, as well as to all who are seeking information about our institution via the internet. Here you will find authentic and up-to-date details on our academic programmes, faculty, campus life, news, successes and achievements.

Obuda University, despite its relative youth, is an institution with deep traditions and a significant heritage. I believe our work is well done when we live up to the legacy of our predecessors, who in their time responded to contemporary challenges in the most progressive and innovative ways.

Today, one in every three engineers in Hungary graduates from Obuda University. However, maintaining academic excellence requires more than just knowledge transfer—it also means nurturing openness to innovation, sensitivity to problems, and continuous curiosity in our students.

Every element of my rectoral agenda aims to uphold these principles.

My goal is to make Obuda University the first choice for Hungarian students both at home and abroad, as well as for international students with an interest in engineering and technical fields. I consider it of paramount importance that our outstanding teaching and research staff, high-quality education, and innovative activities receive appropriate recognition at both national and international levels. I intend to realise this together with our university community.

When I took office in 2019, Obuda University was unofficially ranked around 2,083rd in international university rankings; today, based on the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, the institution is officially placed in the 601–800 band among the world’s best universities, making it the second highest-ranked university in Hungary.

I believe in continuous development and that we must not rest on our current achievements. Therefore, on 1 August 2021, the University Senate decided that Obuda University would transition to being a foundation-maintained university. This change of governance enables more flexible operations and allows for long-term, predictable planning to achieve our goals.

Academic calendar

Orientation Week: The first week of the academic period, during which primarily academic-related tasks (such as semester registration, subject, and course enrollment) can be completed and/or finalized. For the 2026/27/1 semester, it will take place between 31st August and 4th of September, 2026.

Academic Period (Semester): The 15-week period that includes both the Registration Week and the weeks when regular classes are held. For the 2026/27/1 semester, it will be from 31st August to 12th December, 2026.

Registration Day

04/09/2026 Friday, 96/b Bécsi Road, Budapest H-1034.

This day provides key information for newly arrived Stipendium Hungaricum and self-financed international students. It offers an overview of Obuda University and the Hungarian higher education system, and introduces students to the university’s academic platforms.

Orientatation week

We are very pleased to invite our Erasmus+ and other exchange students to the Orientation Week, which will be held in the period of 31 August – 4 September 2026. During this week you will be able to get lots of information about the university, your official study obligations, programs, events and will have a possibility to meet the representatives of the university and other freshmen from all over the World.

Óbuda University’s Semester Opening Ceremony

The Senate of Óbuda University’s Semester Opening Ceremony will be held on the 8th of September 2026 (Monday) starting at 14:00 at the Várkert Bazár (1013 Budapest, Ybl Miklós tér 2–6).

Neptun System / Neptun code

The Neptun Unified Education System is the mandatory administrative platform for students’ studies. For logging in you need a unique Neptun code, which every admitted student will receive in an email. The Faculty coordinator will send the Neptun identification code to every admitted student to their email address. Please check the Spam/Unsolicited mail/Junk mail folders as well!

On the Neptun student web interface, educational materials demonstrating the use of Neptun are available, knowledge of which facilitates quick and accurate use of the system.

Ensuring equal opportunities for students with disabilities

Under the provisions of the national higher education act, the University may apply for supplementary funding every year after its students living with a medically certified disability. From the funds granted on this basis, and tailored to the needs of the students concerned, we can provide supplementary support that helps overcome obstacles related to their studies — for example physical and informational accessibility, or the employment of personal assistants.

We wish to support our students’ academic work and progress in every possible way. Therefore, if you have a visual, hearing or mobility impairment, or any other learning difficulty, please indicate it on the declaration available at the link below:

Registering for the supplementary support is not compulsory; however, the University may only claim financial support after registered students who hold the relevant certificate.

If you do not need any allowances for your studies, we still kindly ask you to support your fellow students concerned by completing the declaration — by making it possible for the University to claim the financial support, you help the University’s accessibility goals.

The registration declaration for the supplementary support must be submitted to the Study Office.

The principles concerning the studies of students with disabilities and the procedure for establishing and certifying a disability are laid down in a separate university regulation, which is available at the following link: Equal Opportunities Regulations

Based on the regulations, you may also submit a request for allowances supporting and facilitating your studies. The request can be found and submitted in the Neptun request module:

The request may be submitted until the last day of the registration week.

We welcome you to the ‘four virtual walls’ of Obuda University! We congratulate you on your successful entrance exams, and we hope that this success will continue on in the future. Although you still have a long way to go before you enter the world of graduates, we still want you to always look back on your time here as a fond memory. The University Student Council and the Faculty Student Councils also work to make your university years the best and as smooth and eventful as possible — you can turn to us with questions about scholarships, academic matters, dormitory affairs and talent development alike. Mentor system

Every semester hundreds of international students come to Obuda University from all over the world. The aim of the mentor program is to encourage intercultural exchange and to support the new students during their stay here, in general, especially at the beginning of the semester.

Library

The basic task of the Library is the planned and continuous collection, filing, discovery and provision of the literature necessary for the teaching, research and academic work of the University. The Library contributes to the development of students’ knowledge of library use, to familiarizing them with literary research methods, and also provides assistance in acquiring information culture, and as a public library, it participates in the National Document Supply System (Országos Dokumentumellátó Rendszer – ODR), thereby ensuring the University’s comprehensive literature supply.

Student ID card

A student admitted to a higher education institution is entitled to apply for a student ID card and to use the related benefits.

The student ID card is free of charge and can be applied for by all students who have an Active student status and an Active semester at a Hungarian higher education institution. Using the student ID card you can get discount for travel, cultural programmes and in some shops.

Physical Education

Sports and competitive opportunities for students at Obuda University are provided by the Physical Education and Sports Institute (TSI). In Obuda University, physical education classes are held in four sports halls located at Tavaszmező Street, Népszínház Street, Doberdó Street, and Thököly Street, as well as at external venues.

Starting from the 2023/24/1 semester, physical education becomes a criterion subject with the following duration:

  • For BA/BSc/BProf (Bachelor) programs, it is a 4-semester subject.
  • For MA/MSc (Master) programs, it is a 2-semester subject.

Students from both full-time and part-time schedules have the opportunity to earn 1 credit point every semester. The acceptance of the semester is uniform at all campuses. Students will initially be enrolled in the ‘Physical Education I’ course, which serves as a collecting course. During the registration period, they can choose from the available courses and finalize their selection by changing their registration to the chosen course.

Elite athletes and students suffering from severe illnesses may be exempted from participating in physical education classes. Students requesting exemptions based on their status as elite athletes or health conditions should enrol in the course ‘Versenysport felmentések’ (Course code: 84). The exemption request and the accompanying certificates should be submitted to the responsible course instructor by the end of the 3rd week of the academic term.

Other sport opportunities

In addition to mandatory physical education classes, there are various opportunities for regular training and participation in university and college-level competitions in different sports. You can inquire about these sports opportunities from the physical education teachers, on our website, or on our Facebook page.

Institutional sport opportunities

The University Sports Club, Kandó SC, welcomes students who are eager to participate in the following sports sections: basketball, martial arts and combat sports, volleyball, archery, water polo, chess, and recreational sports. For detailed information regarding membership, you can contact Ákos Hiervarter, the director of the institute, at the email address hiervarter.akos@uni-obuda.hu.

Competitive opportunities

The physical education subject can also be fulfilled through participation in internal and inter-institutional events and competitions. Students who wish to fulfill the subject in this way should enroll in the course ‘Egyetemi sportrendezvények’ (Course code: 116). After enrolling in the course, you will receive a message on Neptun with further details. You will be able to participate in the following competitions:

Internal events within the institution:

  • ÓE House Championships, cups
  • ÓE Sports Day: volleyball, martial arts, women’s and men’s basketball, handball, table tennis, football, futsal, bench press, tennis, ergometer rowing, chess.

Inter-institutional events:

  • Budapest University and College Sports Federation (BEFS) organized Budapest Area University Sports Competitions
  • Technical Higher Education Sports Day
  • Hungarian University and College Sports Federation (MEFS) organized national competitions between higher education institutions
  • Carpathian Basin Universities Cup
  • National Championships
  • Mass sports events (marathon, half marathon, UltraBalaton, Balaton swim, etc.)
